Kindergarten Jump Start, a free program for incoming kindergarteners, is going on now. The program gives students opportunities to participate in a variety of math, literacy and hands-on learning activities; learn basic daily school routines; and become familiar with school surroundings in order to ease the transition to school.

Jump Start is offered at the following elementary schools:

July 31-Aug. 18, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Anderson, Fruit Valley, Harney, Hazel Dell, Hough, King, Lincoln, Marshall, Minnehaha, Ogden, Roosevelt, Sacajawea, Truman, Walnut Grove and Washington elementary schools

Aug. 14-18, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Chinook, Eisenhower, Felida, Franklin, Lake Shore and Salmon Creek elementary schools

Transportation is not provided. However, students receive a free, nutritious snack daily.

Every incoming kindergartener is welcome to participate, even those who attended preschool and those who can attend only a portion of the program.

Parents should contact their child’s school’s office to sign up.
