It’s time to start thinking ahead to middle school! All 11 year old, 6th grade students are required, by state law, to have a Tdap vaccine (as well as two varicella vaccines) before they can start middle school.

If your 5th grader is already 11 years old, please call your child’s medical provider to schedule an appointment. If they are still 10, it’s a good idea to make the call to schedule an appointment for after their 11th birthday. Hint: Don’t wait until right before school starts! August is very busy for the medical providers, as every incoming kindergartner and every 6th grader will need immunizations – if you wait, you might not get an appointment!

As soon as they receive their shot, please bring in the proof of immunizations to the office and we will update our records. If you have questions or concerns, I can be reached at Rachel.Merritt@vansd.org or call the school’s office.

Thank you!

Your School Nurse,
Rachel Merritt, RN
